Ergis Group, the leader of plastics processing in Central and Eastern Europe, has been nominated for the prestigious Plastics Recycling Awards Europe 2018 in the category "Best Technology Innovation in Plastics Recycling" for its ErgisMark® technology.
Plastics Recycling Awards Europe 2018 are designed to recognise organizations, companies and individuals from all over Europe who are involved in the improvement of plastics recycling. The nominees are awarded in five categories. The award ceremony will take place on 25th April 2018 during the Plastics Recycling Show Europe in Amsterdam. The purpose of the award programme is to promote the recycling of plastics and to indicate the use of recyclates as well as to develop recycling technologies.
We are happy that the solutions developed by Ergis have been recognized by the key European players in the plastics industry. The nomination confirms that our actions, falling within the philosophy of the circular economy and, by this, within the trends related to environmental protection, are appreciated in Europe - said Tadeusz Nowicki, President of the Management Board of Ergis S.A.
The concept of the ErgisMark® has been developed by Ergis R&D department in cooperation with a start-up company. It involves marking plastics used for the production of multi-material and multi-layer materials, such as trays for meat and cheese, with special fluorescent markers. Markers are applied by surface printing technology. It does not change the characteristics of the packaging and is also completely safe to use with food products. When the labelled material ends up as waste in the recycling system, it is easily classified and directed to the appropriate material streams due the use of special detection systems. This technology allows recycling companies to sort and recycle materials in a faster, more precise and, above all, more efficient way.
Plastics are perfectly recyclable. For example, the secondary raw materials from recovery of PET bottles, which are highly valued, are among others used for production of fleece or PET films. Recycled plastics have also been used in the production of terrace boards, panels or insulating films. Repeated use of plastics brings significant savings when it comes to the use of oil, but above all it significantly reduces CO2 emission. The ErgisMark® technology is a solution that allows efficient recycling of products made of multi-materials and multi-layer materials, the sorting of which is the most difficult. Currently, all Ergis research efforts in this field are focused on such a refinement of the ErgisMark® technology, that it will allow, unlike the competitive solutions, to read the marker also on shredded elements of the packaging (flakes).
